The Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell

In pursuance of the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court of India, UGC, NAAC and as per the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act, 2013, the Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell has been established to provide a healthy and congenial atmosphere to the students, teaching as well as non-teaching employees of Michael Madhusudan Dutta College.

The basic objectives of the Cell are:

  • to provide for the effective enforcement of the basic human rights,
  • to maintain gender equality and guarantee against sexual harassment and abuse,
  • to deal with cases of sexual harassment in a time bound manner, and
  • to ensure support services to the victimized.

A complaint of sexual harassment may be lodged by the victim, in writing, addressed to the Chairperson or any member of the Committee. The Committee shall meet as and when any complaint is received by it.

The Committee shall conduct the proceedings in accordance with the principles of natural justice. It shall allow both parties reasonable opportunity for presenting their case. The Committee shall also allow both the parties to produce relevant documents and witnesses to support their case.

The Committee shall record its findings in writing supported with reasons and shall forward the same with its recommendations, to the Principal within a period of ten (10) days from the date of the complaint lodged. The Principal, if necessary, may forward the same to the Director of Higher Education, Government of Tripura.

The disciplinary action could be initiated in the form of:

  • warning,
  • written apology,
  • bond of good behaviour,
  • adverse remarks in the annual confidential report, or
  • any other relevant mechanism

as decided by the Principal or the DHE, Govt. of Tripura, if necessity arises.
